Immersive Healthcare Symposium at xRS Week 2019: The Prescription for Better Outcomes and Reduced Costs

As xR (the collective term for both Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies) becomes more affordable and its quality improves, medical care providers, administrators and investors are looking hard at the technology.

To address the need for unbiased information on the benefits and challenges of xR in medical practice, Greenlight Insights has added a track on healthcare, the Immersive Healthcare Symposium, to its 4th annual xRS Week Conference, slated for October 16-18, 2019, in San Francisco. Virtual and Augmented Reality are showing promise in many areas of healthcare, including psychotherapy, pain reduction, surgical planning, training, and palliative care, offering new options for medical professionals and their patients.

The technology is quickly moving out of experimental laboratories and into clinics. Today, applications are treating PTSD in veterans, reducing pain for burn and cancer patients, helping surgeons plan complex procedures, and enabling a better understanding of diseases and treatments to patients and their families.

Comprised of three panels, the Immersive Healthcare Symposium will provide information that will enable business and clinical leaders in healthcare to make better decisions. Led by one of the world’s leading authorities on xR in Healthcare, Walter Greenleaf, Ph.D, panelists will focus on three areas: Healthcare: xR in Practice, The Future of xR in Healthcare and Scaling xR in Healthcare.

Each panel will be led by an industry authority and will include time for questions.

“The Immersive Healthcare Symposium will help anyone involved with the management of patient outcomes understand how they can prepare to roll out this technology in the areas where it has proven most effective,“ explained Ben Delaney, Chief Analyst at Greenlight Insights, who organized the track. He added, “Teachers, medical staff and administrators will find tremendous value in these unbiased presentations. Insurance executives, developers and investors will also benefit from this conversation, which will explain what is working now, why it works, where it leads in the future, and how the economics of xR in healthcare play out.”

These experts will be presenting during the Immersive Healthcare Symposium at xRS Week: Brandon Birckhead, MD, Project Scientist, Cedar-Sinai Medical Center Walter Greenleaf, Ph.D. Stanford University Chris Ingwalson, VP Marketing & Communications, HealthScholars Mary Kate Mahoney, Global Head of VR for Healthcare, HP Julie Morgan, VP, Travelers Insurance Nanea Reeves, CEO, TRIPP Skip Rizzo, Ph.D., University of Southern California/Institute for Creative Technologies Jessica Stone, Ph.D., RPT-S Matthew Stoudt, CEO, appliedVR Richard Vincent, CEO, Fundamental VR.
