The Lion King Rules the Weekend Box Office

Somewhat unsurprisingly, The Lion King dominated the domestic box office this past weekend. Somewhat more surprisingly, it made a whopping $185 million, which put the Disney flick’s global take at over half a billion dollars. Most folks presumed it would get there eventually, but the fact that Simba and company have gotten to those numbers so quickly is astounding—and it’s just going to keep racking up more.

Avengers: Endgame Just Beat Avatar

Speaking of box office domination, Disney’s Marvel is now the new all-time box office champion. Over the weekend, Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing movie ever, beating the 10-year reign of James Cameron’s Avatar to bring in nearly $2.8 billion worldwide.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Trailer
