Insomniac’s Rift-Exclusive Stormland Gets A Release Date

Finally, we have a release date for Insomniac Games’ Stormland.

The Oculus Rift exclusive game will arrive on November 14. Oculus confirmed the news at its Connect developer conference today. It’s available to pre-order now and everyone that was in the room for Connect’s keynote will get it for free along with Asgard’s Wrath (which also got a date).

Stormland is a first-person action game in which players control robots. They explore a set of islands, upgrading their kit and fighting enemies with weapons. Players can also team up in co-op options. We’ve been looking forward to the game for some time.

Though Stormland is an Oculus Rift exclusive, come November you’ll be able to play it on Oculus Quest too. Also announced at Connect today is Oculus Link. It gives you the ability to play Rift games through Quest when tethered to a PC. You’ll still need an expensive PC, then, but Quest owners are halfway there.

This could well be Insomniac’s last Oculus-published game. A few weeks back Sony announced that it had acquired the studio after many years of collaboration, including the recent Spider-Man PS4 game. The company probably won’t be making Oculus-exclusive, then, but it’s always possible that it could start making games for the PSVR headset.

Elsewhere, Oculus and Respawn just announced Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, resurrecting the long-running franchise for the Oculus Rift. Vader Immortal Episode II just launched on both Rift and Quest too. Quite a lot to look forward to for PC VR fans, then.
