After its announcement during our E3 2019 VR Showcase earlier in the year, Budget Cuts 2: Mission Insolvency is set for release on December 12.

The game will launch with support for the Rift, Index and Vive and is a continuation of the original Budget Cuts title from last year.

The original game spent two years in development before release, and as a result the sequel will cut down on development time by building on the original and refining the stealth gameplay, while adding some new mechanics as well.

In his review of the original Budget Cuts game, Jamie thought the game was a lot of fun but also had some criticisms. “At its best, Budget Cuts is a gleeful stealth playground that thrives on the spontaneity it demands of players,” he wrote. “But it’s a game that can also succumb to the weight of its lofty ambitions, constantly wrestling with irritating bugs, imperfect systems and coming up light on content.”

However, the good news is that Jamie also went hands on with a pre-alpha build of Budget Cuts 2 back in June and a lot of his criticisms of the first game seem to have been addressed in the sequel. “In the hour I’ve played, I’ve found a game free of the frustrations of the first, one that finally let me embrace the joys of the mechanics Neat has been working on for so very long.”

There are also some new weapons and new environments in the sequel, which aim to mix things up despite the visual similarities to the first game.

Budget Cuts 2 is available to wishlist on Steam and pre-order on the Oculus Store now for $29.99.
