We’re super excited to announce the latest version of Botfront, our open source chatbot platform based on Rasa, which allows you to create conversations

We have been working on it for about 2 years now, and here is why:

We see many bot projects stuck at the proof of concept level. A recurring problem is that writing good specs for conversations is harder than it looks. The back and forth between designers, copywriters, and developers is overwhelming, and projects get postponed or canceled.

We believe that designers and copywriters should implement conversation flows, and developers should write code that enriches the conversation context (instead of just coding the flow). That way, building and improving bots become much faster and a more fulfilling team experience.

The Botfront interface.

Our unique interface allows you to create stories complex conversational flows (stories) in a visual and intuitive way, as opposed to being confined to Markdown and other limitations. You can add user utterances, bot responses, use slots and actions in a sequential flow.

You can also branch your conversations and link them to each other, or even to themselves in certain cases.

The conversation builder also helps you annotating your data faster. When you type in a user utterance, it runs it through your existing trained model and annotates it accordingly. Then you can change the intent, create a new one, or highlight entities. When you click Save, the utterance is also be added to your training data. This is a great way to kickstart your NLU model in the early stages of your project.

Another benefit of building conversational flows visually is that you can make better decisions on guiding the scenarios. Having the ability to see conversational elements with their actual content lets you envision the whole tree better, and you can pinpoint areas of improvement.

We have extensively explained how to use the new conversation builder in our documentation. We have also provided a sample flow that goes over best practices in stories and shows how you can effectively use branching and linking.

We save an incredible amount of time with Botfront on every project, and we hope that it will help other teams to iterate faster and flood the world with useful bots capable of meaningful conversations.
